Costa Blanca Beaches:

Superb quality beaches run the full length of the Costa Blanca region. The golden beaches are wonderfully wide and have the coveted “Blue Flag” safety designation. All the local beaches are in easy to reach places and, no matter where your selected bungalow or villa is situated, you will not be more than 3 miles from the nearest beach. Car hire therefore, although not totally essential, is recommended. [See sidebar for more “car hire” information] Reliable bus services are available for those wanting a holiday from the car.

The virtually year-round presence of the sun, combined with a climate to be envied, where the average temperature is some 20 degrees, means that one can swim and practise other types of water sports at any time of the year.

At the same time, beauty spots and nature parks offer endless possibilities to those who prefer mountain-walking, horse-riding, cycling etc.

Sightseeing:

A car gives you freedom to go sightseeing at your own pace, perhaps to the historic local cities of Alicante, Elche, Cartegena or Murcia, and don’t forget Benidorm, where low cost package holidays began. These days the town is moving up-market with all types of theme parks. Closer to La Marina there are several Water Parks which make an excellent day out, especially for the children. locally, Santa Pola is famous for it’s vast salt lakes and a protected nature reserve, which is home to thousands of species of birds.

Local Street markets.

The local towns of Torrevieja, Santa Pola, Guadamar and Almoradi all have their famous open street markets. There are serious bargains to be had in a whole range of leather goods, including shoes, boots, handbags etc.

You will find water sports are available on various beaches, Mainly Santa Pola. In La Marina there is a Scuba Diving club which offers tuition for those that would love to learn to dive. For the experienced diver there are days of diving available all around the coast.

Golf courses:

There are several golf courses in the area, including Villa Martin, which is a championship course. Many of these complexes, like Villa Martin, cater for other pursuits as well as golf, such as riding and tennis. South from Villa Martin is the peninsular of La Manga, a huge sports complex with excellent facilities, including three golf courses. The closest golf course to La Marina is La Marquesa, about 5 miles away at Rojales.

Traditional Spain:

The whole Costa Blanca is considered to be “old” Spain and is still a long way off the traditional holiday routes. Away from the beaches and only a few miles inland you can travel through small towns and villages virtually untouched by tourism. Anyone who has experienced a local village or town in it’s fiesta season will know of the excitement, colour and spectacle – the music, singing, dancing, drinking and eating which follows the procession of villagers in traditional costume and regalia. The whole place comes to a standstill with everyone made welcome. On the road, castles and churches and historic buildings are everywhere, you can witness the true culture of Spain in the skills and crafts of Spanish workmen. As you pass acres and acres of Lemon and Orange groves, vineyards full of grapes, field upon field of Almond trees and terraces of Olive bushes you’ll see how Spain is both very old. . . yet very modern.
